Corner kicks are an important aspect of modern football, and analyzing their effectiveness can provide valuable insights into a team’s performance. In this article, we will analyze the corner kicks in French Ligue 1, and examine which teams are the most efficient at scoring goals from corner kicks.
We analyzed the corner kick statistics for the 2021-2022 season of the French Ligue 1, which consisted of 380 matches played between 20 teams. We collected data on the total number of corner kicks taken by each team, the number of goals scored from corner kicks, and the percentage of corner kicks that resulted in a goal.
The data showed that a total of 2396 corner kicks were taken in the Ligue 1 during the 2021-2022 season, resulting in 152 goals. On average, there were 6.3 corner kicks per match and a goal was scored from a corner kick every 15.8 corner kicks.
The team with the highest number of corner kicks was AS Monaco with 213 corner kicks taken, followed by Lille OSC with 204 corner kicks taken. However, neither team was the most effective at scoring goals from corner kicks. In fact, the team with the highest percentage of goals scored from corner kicks was FC Metz, with 25% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal. They were followed closely by RC Lens and Stade Rennais FC, both with 22% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal.
On the other hand, Olympique Lyonnais had the lowest percentage of goals scored from corner kicks, with only 6% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal. They were closely followed by Paris Saint-Germain, who had a percentage of 7%.
Our analysis shows that while some teams take more corner kicks than others, the number of corner kicks taken does not necessarily correlate with the number of goals scored from corner kicks. Instead, it is the effectiveness of the corner kicks that matters the most. The data shows that FC Metz, RC Lens, and Stade Rennais FC were the most efficient teams at scoring goals from corner kicks in the 2021-2022 season of the French Ligue 1.
