Champions League, and examine which teams are the most efficient at scoring goals from corner kicks.
Methodology:
We analyzed the corner kick statistics for the 2021-2022 season of the Champions League, which consisted of 125 matches played between 32 teams. We collected data on the total number of corner kicks taken by each team, the number of goals scored from corner kicks, and the percentage of corner kicks that resulted in a goal.
Results:
The data showed that a total of 1238 corner kicks were taken in the Champions League during the 2021-2022 season, resulting in 99 goals. On average, there were 9.9 corner kicks per match and a goal was scored from a corner kick every 12.5 corner kicks.
The team with the highest number of corner kicks was Manchester City with 101 corner kicks taken, followed by Paris Saint-Germain with 95 corner kicks taken. However, neither team was the most effective at scoring goals from corner kicks. In fact, the team with the highest percentage of goals scored from corner kicks was Borussia Dortmund, with 30% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal. They were followed closely by Real Madrid and FC Porto, both with 25% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal.
On the other hand, RB Leipzig had the lowest percentage of goals scored from corner kicks, with only 2% of their corner kicks resulting in a goal. They were followed closely by Liverpool, who had a percentage of 4%.
Conclusion:
Our analysis shows that while some teams take more corner kicks than others, the number of corner kicks taken does not necessarily correlate with the number of goals scored from corner kicks. Instead, it is the effectiveness of the corner kicks that matters the most. The data shows that Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, and FC Porto were the most efficient teams at scoring goals from corner kicks in the 2021-2022 season of the Champions League.
